Centella asiatica, commonly known as Indian pennywort or Asiatic pennywort, is a herbaceous, perennial plant in the flowering plant family Apiaceae. It is native to the wetlands in Asia. It is used as a culinary vegetable and as a medicinal herb. Studies by researchers have revealed its various functional activities such as antibacterial, antiinflammatory, antidiabetic, antiviral, antifungal, antioxidant, radioprotective, antiulcer, cytotoxic, skin protective, memory enhancing, immunomodulatory, and wound-healing effects.
